Well, this explains it

After calling SGI and asking what the last supported version of IRIX would be for an Indigo2 workstation, I spent an exorbitant amount of money for a secondhand set of CDs on ebay. OK, not exorbitant compared to the $600 retail price of IRIX, but still more than I’ve ever spent on Operating System software ever.

I did research and tinkered and did more research and more tinkering and finally today I get the answer to why my installs keep failing:

Changes to Support Mode Status
The following workstations, graphics and scalable server systems have transitioned to retired support mode for the IRIX® 6.5.23 release. IRIX 6.5.23 and beyond do not support installation on these systems.

Challenge® S, Challenge® M, Challenge® DM, Challenge® L, Challenge® XL
Indigo®, Indigo2™, Indigo2™ Extreme, Indigo2 Impact™, Indy®
Power Challenge™, Power Indigo2™, Power Onyx™
Onyx®

Yep, just plain unsupported.

Now I guess I get to look for a copy of IRIX 6.5.22. Maybe someone wants to trade for 6.5.26.

I think I have 6.5 something around here.
I’ll look around for it, but my SGI’s are all in pretty sad shape heh.
Interested in an Indigo2 with a R4400-250 and an Indy?

Oh God no. I’m tearing my hair out with just ONE of these. I could be tempted by an O2 for the pretty case, but I’d have to ditch the Indigo2. I’ve got way too many computers. Right now I’ve “cut back” to three (other than handhelds—also I don’t count the laptop that I use as a terminal to the RS/6000 as a computer).

But if you have the base install disks for 6.5.22 or something not too much farther back, I’d love to get my paws on them. I’m definitely looking for a post-Y2K release if possible, which I think means 6.5.7 or newer.

    Thanks!

My Sun Ultra 10 sits unused in the dark recesses of my garage. All my boxes are running windows now… 🙂

Although I’ve been using Debian Sarge at work and am tempted to move my BBS to it; there’s a Linux port of Synchronet out there.

It wasn’t until today that I realized: not only am I Windows-free here, I’m also Linux-free. Even counting the laptop, it’s running PC-DOS 2000.

  5. Forbes also lists Lex as
Forbes also lists Lex as being four years older, which would blow parts of my storyline away.

Disregarding that, I believe that we were talking about a younger Lex. I’d bet that Lexcorp stock has been climbing at a steeper rate than Wayne Enterprises. I’d bet that if we take those numbers back say, ten years, Lex would be closer to a half billion and Bruce at like three and a half. Remember that Bruce is basically riding his father’s successes, and probably steering the company with a stable, conservative, and ethical hand. Lex bets the farm and cheats, so I think a twentyfold increase in net worth over ten years is lowballing.

It also depends on the version of the story you’re running with. Smallville Lex is inheriting Lexcorp from Lionel, but the canonical Lex was lifted out of poverty by taking out a huge insurance policy on his parents and cutting the brake fluid line in the family automobile. Canonical Lex by the age of Smallville Lex is probably playing with only a seven-digit net worth.

Hey, I did get your messages, and thanks. I trust Sam got to the airport and his destination safely?
