four 7.5‑minute miles!

So much for that goal.

I like my goals to be all-day suckers, but this time I hit my goal the very next time I got on the treadmill. Hammerhead says this is OK because so much of running is mental, but I really thought that I had picked an ambitious enough goal so that I work on it for a while.

On the other hand, it is kind of nice to hit my goals, and it is a nice little ego boost that I can run four seven-and-a-half minute miles. I actually hit four miles at 29:47, so I very slightly beat seven-and-a-half.

Other things about today that have made it a good day: I meditated for twenty minutes this morning, and chanted the Heart of Great Perfect Wisdom Sutra. Tonight I washed all my dirty dishes before making dinner, and dinner was a pretty tasty Harris Ranch steak. Yum!

Speaking of meditation, I am planning to go to Tassajara in two weeks for four days. It’s a trip with some others in my Wednesday night sitting group. I haven’t been going Wednesdays much lately because of my work schedule, but that should change pretty soon (note foreshadowing).

More news: Friday afternoon I gave my supervisor my two-week notice. I’m going back to consulting. I must be a fool to think that this is a good time to go back to building websites, except that I have clients that want me to do work for them. I like the freedom that comes from being an independant and I’m hoping that I can keep things down to about 15 or 20 hours per week so that I can pursue some of my other interests – like getting back into school and being around other active creative people. Hopefully some of it will rub off on me!

So I’m pretty excited about my life right now. There’s lots going on, and lots of change in the wind.
