Another short ride today
I guess it’s yesterday now, but I thought I’d check in.
I met with someone about some damn computer stuff today at 2pm, so I left a little bit early and took the long way around. I went out Monterey and then cut through some neighborhoods to go over to Portola, then went up into the Twin Peaks neighborhood. I thought about going up Twin Peaks, but time was short and Matt’s reminder not to blow out my knees stuck with me, so I just went down Market Street, which I’d never done before. My cyclometer seems to be working again, so I can report that I hit 46 MPH coming down Market. I would have pushed myself farther, but there were some strong crosswinds and I didn’t feel stable. Besides, I don’t know the street well enough to know when there might be a sharp curve or a stoplight with traffic going through. After my meeting, I took the flat way home: out Valencia to Mission and then straight on ’til midnight.
Total mileage, just 10 miles. But it was real good to know that I could make it up to Twin Peaks without killing myself in the process. I’ve always thought it would be nice to live up there except that it would be tough getting home after a bike ride. Who wants to climb hills at the end of a ride? But Portola is actually pretty manageable, so if I was coming from the West it would be a fine place to come home to.
I think climbing from the East would still be a major bitch though.
