Re: jection

Everyone knows what AA is, right? Well here’s an anecdote about the origins of AA: Bill Wilson, one of the founders of AA, had tried to get a bunch of gutter-drunks sober for months before he met Dr. Bob Smith, the singer of the Cure other founder. He had no success, and one day was despairing of the fact that none of the drunks he’d been working with had stayed sober. And his wife Lois pointed out, «but Bill, it’s kept you sober.»

Wow, very clarifying. I want to bring this principle into my own life. Not getting what I think I want is OK, because I receive the important benefit of the action. I like that.

So over the past few months, I’ve been asking women out on dates. And they’ve all said no. But that’s OK, because…

hmmm.…

See, this is where the analogy breaks down.

I’m glad you’re feeling better, and sorry to hear that you’re down. You’ve posted a few things lately that have let on that you’re not sailing as smoothly as might be, so I’m not totally out of the loop. Hang in there.

Hey, one thing that getting turned down teaches me is that it’s survivable.

You’re still walking, talking, and breathing, right?

Also, if you can do half a dozen in a row and keep asking, that shows grit.

I hope that the women who’ve turned you down did so graciously. So few women seem to know how to do that, or they choose not to.

Nope. I meant tonight, as in last night, when I posted it.
