Short Bike, Short Run before work today.

I forgot to use the timer on my watch, but I added up the lengths of the songs I played plus the amount into the last song I was. Need to keep better track of this stuff.

My commute to work is the same as always, I think it’s just about 7 miles. The bike is a LOT heavier laden down with change of clothes etc in the panniers. Although normally I would have all that crap on my back, so it’s a trade-off and this is probably a lot better for me. I’ll get to ride roughly 7 miles home tonight too.

On the way up the Embarcadero I took note of the odometer reading at various points so that I would know how far to run. I had to keep a lot of numbers in my head because I didn’t know what the final number would be, but I wrote everything down as best as I could remember and I’ll double-check the numbers later. I ran from the door of my office to Teatro Zinzanni annd back, which I’m putting at 1.65 miles. Definitely a reminder that the first mile is the hardest. I got to Pier 39 and I didn’t think I could go any farther, but by the time I got to Pier 39 on the way back I thought I could just keep going. So next time I can do a longer run.

The Embarcadero is a great place to run. Yay, Embarcadero! And Thank God for Loma Prieta so they had to tear down that eyesore of a freeway down. I’m real sorry that people died in the Earthquake but I’m not sorry that the Embarcadero is now a beautiful thoroughfare for cars, bikes, and pedestrians instead of the disgusting piece of urban blight it used to be.

Anyway, my best guess now is that I did 1.65 miles in 14:50. That seems real slow, and it seemed real slow as I was doing it, but my heartrate monitor said I was running at or around 190bpm, which means I’m up at 102% of maxHR. Um. That’s real bad, right? So I should go slower for longer distances.

Well, for future reference: Jefferson & Powell to the Ferry Building and back is 3.1 miles. Jefferson & Powell to directly under the Bay Bridge and back is 4.2 miles, and Jefferson & Powell to PacBell Park and back is 5.5 miles. Things to work up to.

Since I’m done with my initial 3 year contract with my gym, I have annual renewal for $99/year. At that price I think it’s worth it if I never go in there again except to shower before work after running and/or cycling in.

    …and the F Line wasn’t on-time? Big shock!

You visit Pier 39 often? My office is just a couple blocks away.

  2. I go to various things in
I go to various things in that neighborhood, mostly In ‘n Out. I don’t think I’ve been to Pier 39 itself in years. I mostly ride the F line or walk around to check things out.

I also seem to be good at giving people directions because wherever I go people stop and ask me how to get places.

  3. mmmmm.… In ‘n’ Out
    mmmmm.… In ‘n’ Out burgers…

Yeah, I brought a sandwich today, but let’s grab lunch sometime since you’re in the habit of visiting the ‘hood.

  4. Forgetting to use the timer
Forgetting to use the timer on your watch… Today I rode my bike around Lake Merritt, wondering if someday I might see trotting around there, and started the stopwatch at the beginning, and when I got one lap around I pushed the button and read the watch, and it said 10:46. I went wow!, I used to think twelve and a half minutes was a good time for me… then after the second lap, I looked again to make sure I was reading 10:46 correctly, and now it said 11:02 or so. I’d pushed the wrong button. It was displaying the time of day. The stop watch read over 27 minutes by then (the second lap being slow).
