Happy Independence Day

Three blocks away in one direc­tion a neigh­bor’s house is burn­ing down.

Three blocks away in the oth­er direc­tion some oth­er neigh­bors are shoot­ing off huge fire­works. Hun­dreds of feet into the air. The sorts of fire­works that might make a July 4^th exhib­it in a real­ly small town.

Some­one’s hopes and dreams burned up today. I can’t even express how sad that is, but at the very least it does­n’t look as though any­one was hurt. I hope I’m right and that every­one got out.
