DEVO in Morningside Park 7/22/2004 setlist
The boys looked old, but they played hard and rocked my world. Here’s what you missed:
- good thing
- girl U want
- whip it
- satisfaction (guitar sounding eerily like Snakefinger’s licks on the Residents’ rendition of same. Extra points for “how white my shit could be.”)
- uncontrollable urge
- mongoloid
- blockhead
- jocko homo (including the “I’ve got a rhyme that comes in a riddle” interlude found on the version of the song on B Stiff)
- spud patrol/mister dna
- gut feeling/slap yo mammy
- gates of steel (Mark’s voice was starting to give out here, but I’m glad they played it.)
11 songs is a decent set, I think, for a show played for a thinning crowd of runners who were on for the “whatever happened to” gimmick. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little longer, but we’ll see. What could they do tomorrow that they didn’t do tonight to make me happy? Play B Stiff, that’s what.
Aside to dracunculus: seeing DEVO after completing the10K felt like a hero’s reward.
Aside to euthymia: yes, that was me prank calling you from the middle of what must have sounded like a DEVO show.
Aside to jennybloog and xris3: I’m really sad you weren’t there to enjoy the whole thing with me.

Awww. Nobody’s ever quoted my own fic to me before. How cool is that. Glad you’re having fun; watch out for the green glowy rocks.

Saw Devo last night too. It rained like hell, but the show went on. Summerstage in Central Park is covered, so the bands stay dry even if the fans are drowning.

D00d, I know what you mean!
When I dropped you off, I could tell this was going to be a “one-of-a-kind” event. I’m glad; at least you had a blast.
I’ll keep my eyes open for something like this in the future.
Hey, who found out about this even originally?
clued me in to it.

Devo was magnificient in Portland on Sunday, 8/1 after the 10K. After running poorly, they were quite a treat. Beats seeing The Dead.
