Lovely
The $10 SCSI CD-ROM I bought from eBay a few days ago is already dead. Time to look for another $10 SCSI CD-ROM, I guess.
It may be a while before this SGI box gets running.
There she goes, my beautiful world

Dude!
I just rescued a Plextor PX-32TSi (CD-ROM) and a Ricoh MP6200S (CDRW) from the garbage cans I put out for pickup tomorrow. Both SCSI, obviously. They’re yours if they’ll work for ya.
Wow! Thank you!
Wanna go
Wow! Thank you!
Wanna go running on this side of the Bay soon?
I can meet you downtown almost any day in the next two weeks.

Maybe it’s time to go for broke and spend $13.75.
Running? Not for a while,
Running? Not for a while, let me get some carbs back into me. 🙂
I’ll bring the CD-ROMs into work on wednesday, we can arrange some time during the day to do the pickup. Is there any other IBM hardware that will work on an SGI?
I really don’t know what
I really don’t know what will work.
I guess I should have specified though: I need CD-ROMs with a 50-pin connector. I’m hoping that other than that a SCSI CD-ROM is just a SCSI CD-ROM and will work anywhere.
Someday I might look for a pen tablet for this. It looks like the tablet port uses an old Apple serial connector, so I think the old old Wacom tablets will work. I think I need to worry about getting an Operating System on it first.

Well, Suns used to use the same 50 pin ribbon cable, but they used a different sector size. Toshiba, who OEMed the CDROMs for Sun sold some with a jumper to switch between Sun and Everyone Else. Old Apple CD-ROM drives used the same sector size.
My old 2x read/1x burn Toshiba burner taught me the value of a) universally supported hardware and b) patience. But, I burnt dozens of CDs on my Sparc 2 without making one coaster.
