So I have DSL, I have my block of static IP addresses, and I have the server set up. Now if I could just find the power supply for the network hub, I’d have email again.
I do have a serial connection to the server, so I’ve been able to read some of the emails folks sent to me before the whole damn thing collapsed. I will reply, really. Give me a little time to get all this set back up. I’ve gone through a bunch of boxes and I just need that one damn wallwart.

I used to run my email and web sites from home, but I seemed to invite bad luck with broadband companies, umm, going out of business. First Telocity/Northpoint, then AT&T@Home. And of course there’s also the threat of moving.
These days I recommend VDS providers such as Linode. I have one and use it for email, hosting my web sites, and a nice stable place to IRC from.
