Date report
Went out on a date tonight. Saw Hero at the Parkway, which was OK, and then to coffee on Piedmont in Oaktown.
We had some pleasant conversation, and none of it was exactly forced, but it was all really basic “oh, so what’s your job like?” stuff. I recall thinking that she’s real nice and all, but that we didn’t seem to have anything in common.
Oh well. Gathering information and all, right? I got to go to a movie with a nice girl with whom I have little in common, and that’s a good thing.
During the trailer for Sky Captain, she leaned over to me and said, “I met Jude Law…” and I began to prepare myself to feign interest. “.…this year at ComiCon.”

Where’d you go for coffee –
Where’d you go for coffee — Gaylords, Peets’ or {gasp} Starbucks?
Gaylords makes me feel old. When I got here on a weekday and someone’s went to all the trouble of looking just like Brian Setzer just to go out and get a cuppa, being old, overweight and wearing a jeans and t‑shirt just seems so much easier!
Gaylords is the only place
Gaylords is the only place open past 9pm on a Wednesday.
And it was packed, so we sat outside for about two minutes before one of the employees asked us to get up so they could stack the chairs and move the tables inside. So we ended up just walking up and down Piedmont a little.
It takes a lot of courage to
It takes a lot of courage to give it a try. And you found that you do have something in common!! That’s coo’.
I know I should be
I know I should be commenting on the inner fangirl surprise of your date, which I do think is a great anecdote about the date.
But I’m also curious to know what you thought of “Hero?” Personally I enjoyed it very much, but it seems to dying a slow death at the box office here in America.
I liked it, and it was fun
I liked it, and it was fun to watch, but I don’t think the story lived up to Crouching Tiger’s. Visually it was far beyond, but it was so heavy-handed and the characters really weren’t developed enough to care about them. I liked the Rashomon-style story from all the different perspectives, especially telling the story through theorization, but it just didn’t come off as a strong story; I didn’t care about the characters at the end.
