Alcatraz is OFF (this year)
It’s with regret that I am announcing that because of a combination of factors that I will not be participating in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon this year.
Thanks to everyone that I coerced into supporting me for this event. I hope that you’ll be willing to help me get into the event in 2006.
Since I was not selected in the lottery, I would have had to gather volunteers. Many of the people who were willing to help needed greater advance notice and more specifics about what sort of work would be involved. Unfortunately, now that I finally have the information, I’d have to collect all my volunteers in the next five days.
In addition, this year’s EfA Tri is scheduled the day after one of my favorite road races, the SF Cable Car Chase. It would not be smart for me to give the Cable Car Chase my all and then try to do a challenging tri the next day. It would likewise not be that much fun to do the Cable Car Chase not giving a “race performance.” Yes, it was the Cable Car Chase that dramatically changed it’s schedule (last year it was in late August, this year it’s in early June) but because of the other factors, it looks like it’s the CCC that wins.
I’ve never heard of the
I’ve never heard of the cable car chase. Are you basically running after a cable car?

I was smoking crack. It’s in late August this year too. I have no idea where I saw the June date.
But basically yes. When the first runner turns the corner onto California Street, a Cable Car sets off up the hill, and it’s a race to the top of Nob Hill. I think in recent years the runners have won.
And then after “winning” against the Cable Car, they then have to finish the course! Hahaha!
