So now that SBC admits that I have a phone line (a week after dial tone) they will graciously allow the DSL installation as early as the TWENTIETH.
I don’t remember broadband installation taking this long since the days of ISDN, and that required a team of specialists to show up onsite.
All my email is streaming into the void, all my mailing lists are dead and down, it’s all fuxx0red. Don’t bother emailing me unless you know … Read the rest
Best laid plans of mice and men, I guess.
I had it all worked out, or so I thought. The problem: I’m moving and I have a mailserver at home. How to move it with minimum downtime?
Well, The nice folks at SBC wouldn’t let me keep my old phone number anyway, but they were happy to provide me with overlap, meaning they would start service at the new location before stopping service at the old location. So this became a … Read the rest
My housemate is throwing a temper tantrum and threatening not to move in. Swell. This is at the very eleventh hour, and puts Arpine and I in a pretty awkward position. He doesn’t like that Arpine didn’t tell him to just take over the entire apartment with his stuff. He said to her, “I’ve already had a mother, and I’m in therapy about that. I don’t need another one.”
Yeah, the rest of us have had drama queens before. get over … Read the rest
I have keys and I have a phone. Now all I have to do is get ME and MY STUFF over across town and I’ll be all set.
Why haven’t my belongings just magically jumped into their boxes? Hey, get with it! I don’t want to be doing this at the last minute!
Maybe this is just a part of renting a nice place, but I’ve never lived in a place in SF with so much responsibility put on the renter. … Read the rest
Three blocks away in one direction a neighbor’s house is burning down.
Three blocks away in the other direction some other neighbors are shooting off huge fireworks. Hundreds of feet into the air. The sorts of fireworks that might make a July 4th exhibit in a really small town.
Someone’s hopes and dreams burned up today. I can’t even express how sad that is, but at the very least it doesn’t look as though anyone was hurt. I hope I’m right … Read the rest
Up Twin Peaks: 49:05

Total: 7.9 miles in 1:29:13. About 5 minutes faster than the first time.
This may seem corny, but my yellow LIVESTRONG band was the best dollar I’ve spent in a while. I mean, cancer research is good and all that, but looking down and seeing those words right there was a great motivator. It’s someone else’s motto, sure, but for a … Read the rest
So check this: my deposit is paid and so is my rent for July. I can move in as early as the 5th, except I won’t even try moving until next weekend. Still have a lot of packing to do, and a whole lot of logistics. I’ll probably bring some personal items over through the week, but I’m not going to try to really move anything until Saturday.
According to rumor, the landlord build a closet in the … Read the rest
I’ve been crying

just out of sight
THE FUTURE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND (x2)
My prediction of you and I

Rode my bike into the office today. Even with traffic and not pushing particularly hard, I averaged 16mph on a mostly-flat route. That’s pretty good for me, especially not pushing hard. I used to be able to average 19mph on a flat course, but that was pushing as hard as I could and, you know, back in the day. And where do you find a flat course, anyway?
So I think all this running is making me a … Read the rest
