Sorry, forgot to write down yesterday’s: Out front of Muddy Waters, I said “hello” to a woman who paused briefly at the entrance. She said “hello” cheerily before continuing down the street.

Today, waiting for the bus on the way home from work, I asked a pair of journalism students who were examining the bus map if they needed help finding something. We chatted briefly about the bus route and the correct place to wait. Students travelling together. I got to hear that Austria is beautiful and Paris is filthy before the bus came. Today was a second reminder of the insulating nature of headphones.

Again let me point out that the purpose of this exercise is not to “pick up” women, but to do as my father wrote in a reply to an earlier post, and get into the habit of being friendlier to everyone as I go about my day.

There may of course be other benefits, but let’s worry about it another time, OK? I’m just reporting the facts right now.
