No Rider Course for me

On Monday I opened my mail to find a letter from the company that I signed up with for the motorcycle Rider Course. Apparently they’re going out of business and will not be offering the classes that they have already scheduled. The letter said that they will not be offering refunds, but that whatever company gets the contract to run the course will provide the course for all the students that have already registered. But at this time there’s no news as to who that company will be.

So I’m not going to be getting my motorcycle license anytime in the immediate future. Who knows when the next Rider Course will be offered? And who knows how accommodating they will be schedulewise? I had to wait close to four months to get into the course; they’d better hold open slots for those that had already scheduled a class. If I have to call every week for the next four months to get into a course I’ve already paid for, I won’t be a happy camper.

  1. I don’t know any of the
I don’t know any of the details, but here:

    http://www.motorcycleschool.com/

Bay Area Motorcycle Training is no longer able to conduct courses.
All January courses will be delayed.

If you are enrolled for a course in January,
you will be receiving a letter with further information.

No new erollments are being accepted.

We regret the inconveniences this may cause, but it is unavoidable.

  2. I don’t know what the state
I don’t know what the state university system is like in SF, but here in New Haven, Gateway Comm College offers several courses directed by the CTDOT.

They run a couple hundred dollars each, and consist of a little classroom talk, followed by riding time on training bikes (100 — 350CC or so).

  3. California gives the course
California gives the course contract to several small regional companies. Only the courses authorized by the DMV can hand out the certificate that is the equivalent of the road test at the DMV. Not only does the Rider Course teach the student how to drive, it serves as the DMV road test, so that a license applicant need only take the written test and present the Rider Course certificate. The company that handles SF is “reorganizing”.

I paid my couple hundred dollars, and hopefully sometime I’ll be able to get my classroom time and riding time on training bikes.
