Vienna by way of Daly City

I applied for my passport yesterday. There’s been all this drama and it’s taken me over a year to get my application in, for no good reason. Some weeks I just haven’t been able to justify the $85 it costs to get a passport, other weeks I just didn’t think about it.

But I’ve been wanting more and more to travel abroad for a number of reasons, including being obsessed with a young lady who goes to school in Austria. … Read the rest

No, this is not what I actually said to her

“So hey, you are super-attractive and that’s a problem because right now I’m really emotionally raw and I have no idea how to cope with even being in the same room with you, never mind actually conversing. Could you just take my phone number and give me a call after I’ve had, say, five or six years of therapy? Thanks.”… Read the rest

Science experiment you can try at home!

OK, so one of the cool things about the metric system is how each system of measurement relates to other systems of measurement. I remember from school that one cubic centimeter describes a volume equal to one milliliter, which in turn weighs one gram. pretty cool. All the “standard” system has is “a pint’s a pound the whole world round.” Yeah, whatever.

So here’s what I did. I stepped on the scale, which said that I weighed 80.2Read the rest

Don’t eat stuff off the sidewalk!

Rode 19 miles today. Had a great time and only averaged 12 miles per hour. But I did a lot of climbing, which was great! I had a few moments where I wondered if I was gonna make it, but actually for the most part, the mountains in SF are pretty gradual from the West. And the first thing I did was went to Ocean Beach, so it was all going East from there.

The hardest part was up Golden Gate … Read the rest

Damn you, Yasmine!

You made me do it. You insisted that I promise you that I’d read Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and so I did. I reserved it from the library and when I was in there the other day they informed my that my book had arrived. This afternoon, I sat with a glass of water and a bowl of rice for a late lunch and commenced to read.

Now I’m crying, and I don’t even know why. I can’t stand it! I feel … Read the rest

Yay, Potassium!

I rode my bike to pick up a check from a client this morning. Went up Mission to Cesar Chavez and then across to 3rd street and up around the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf, where my client’s office is. Then I rode around Pacific Heights and over to the Marina, and then out to the Bridge. I stopped and talked to a couple of tourists along the way and gave them some directions, then out to Seacliff. A tourist … Read the rest

Another short ride today

I guess it’s yesterday now, but I thought I’d check in.

I met with someone about some damn computer stuff today at 2pm, so I left a little bit early and took the long way around. I went out Monterey and then cut through some neighborhoods to go over to Portola, then went up into the Twin Peaks neighborhood. I thought about going up Twin Peaks, but time was short and Matt’s reminder not to blow out my knees stuck … Read the rest

Burning My Oatmeal

This is the second time I’ve burned my oatmeal by forgetting it was on the stove after being distracted by women online. I propose a new euphemism: «burning my oatmeal» for all forms of neglecting one’s well-being or any other duties because of following The Imperious Urge. As in: «I’m sorry, what were you saying? I was totally burning my oatmeal.» or «There was a board meeting today? Oh crap, I guess I really burned the oatmeal this time.»… Read the rest
