Peoplewatching on MUNI

Today I missed the streetcar and went down to the underground trains to try to catch up. The underground trains don’t go near my office, but they do go up Market and are faster than the “Historic F‑Line” streetcars, so I hoped I’d get up to Embarcadero before the streetcar I’d just missed.

On the Mission Bay train I saw a fascinating woman talking to the man she was next to. Both were standing on this crowded train near a … Read the rest

Oh for pity’s sake

I was over at 23rd and Mission again today. Someone has kicked a hole in the recently repaired and repainted image of Rachel Corrie. It was heartbreaking the first time, and heartwarming when it was repaired and repainted. Now it’s been defaced in the same manner as before and any suspicion that it might have been a random act of drunkenness has dissolved.

Jeezus Christ. This is Liberal-Left-Coast San Francisco for cryin’ out loud! If this is the kind … Read the rest

Big shout out to the whiny bitches of the left wing

Yeah, I mean all the ones who were saying the sky was gonna fall if that fascist motherfucker Gavin Newsom were elected mayor of San Francisco.

Well, I hope he’s done a good enough job of proving himself to be just another stooge of the Republicans. Right on, man.

I honestly don’t believe Gonzales would have had the balls. I liked Gonzales a lot, but I don’t think he could have pulled it off.

Seriously, I’m so filled with civic pride, I … Read the rest

Rachel’s Appearance on Mural Restored

I’m happy to report that Rachel Corrie’s image on the mural on the front of the Latino Newspaper offices at 23rd and Mission has been restored. Some vandal had kicked a hole in the image of her face, and the hole remained unrepaired for several months. Last night I was in the neighborhood and saw that not only has the hole been repaired, but Rachel’s image has been repainted in its original place next to the image of Ché … Read the rest

I love San Francisco

Deputy Taymur went for him. “Fine, and so you who are not angry, tell me the secret of San Francisco! Quick, now, immediately, at the double! My sixth sense tells me that the key to this complicated criminal enigma lies in this very San Francisco! Answer!”

“It so happens that’s exactly right. But would you allow me to whisper in your ear?”

“Silence! In the ear is forbidden!”

Quakes

The latest death toll from this morning’s earthquake in Bam, Iran is over 20,000 with 50,000 additional injured. The quake was measured at 6.5 on the Richter scale, the same magnitude as Monday’s Paso Robles quake which killed two. Just yesterday I was saying how «only two» can’t seem fortunate to the families of those two women, but today I’m left only with a chill combining gratitude for modern seismically-sound architecture in the place … Read the rest

Public Access Smut

Wow. I just watched about a half hour of what appeared to be a cheaply-produced ad for a strip club on SF public access TV. Um. Yeah. It offended me so much I had to sit and watch the whole thing. LOL

Seriously, I’m not particularly offended, but I am surprised to turn on the public access channel and instead of seeing some preacher ranting about the Bush administration, see naked girls covering each other in whipped cream &c.

Paying for TV???

OK, sometimes I watch as much as three hours of TV in a week. Since antenna reception in San Francisco is so abysmal that it makes Northern Vermont look good, I shell out $16 per month for basic cable so that I can see the occasional show I want to watch.

But some marketing genius has pushed my buttons by re-making Battlestar Galactica, a series I have fond childhood memories of, in a SCI-FI Channel miniseries that starts on Monday. … Read the rest
