I think I have a new bike

I’ve been looking for an entry-level touring bicycle for a little while. My racing bike is totally inappropriate for anything more than a single day trip with all supplies purchased on the road, and really not appropriate for commuting either. My hybrid got trashed out at Burning Man and has been retired to the status of “Playa Bike.”

I’d been thinking of replacing the hybrid with another hybrid, but I got this opportunity to pick up a used rental bike. … Read the rest

Sex Bomb

Nothing corrects a foul mood in the morning like a ride on the cablecar with Tom Jones cranked up on the iPod. Weather.com says it’s 65 in SF right now, but it feels more like 75. It’s probably going to be a scorcher today, but it was just about perfect riding in to work.

This morning I was feeling sorry for myself because there’s no one sharing my bed. Well, you know what? People are having sex all over the … Read the rest

Attention

A bicyclist rode past the bus shelter as I waited for the #43 to come and take me to a meeting I’m attending before I go to the office this morning. He stood up on his pedals as he accellerated past, strands and cables of muscle at taut attention on his lean calves and thighs. As he glided past efficiently, his eyes scanned the street, targeting obstacles and threats to avoid, then moving to the next as he read … Read the rest

Living in San Francisco

The rest of the country just doesn’t have SF’s culture. They have their own culture, but after living here a while one starts to see things viewed through a San Francisco lens that everyone else just doesn’t get.

For example, I don’t think most people start laughing when they read the words «Fruit Basket of America» in a piece of tourist literature.… Read the rest

My Goal

Today I want to climb Twin Peaks on my bicycle. I will take the direct approach and climb O’Shaughnessy. It’s about 2 miles as the crow flies. Afterwards I’ll ride down to the ocean and then maybe around Lake Merced or maybe just back Ocean Ave. I have a party to go to this afternoon, so I can’t be gone too long. Also haven’t been cycling that much, so an ambitious climb like that might be about all I have … Read the rest

I like these new plates

The difference between dumbbell curls with 20 lbs in each hand and curls with 30lbs in each hand is amazing.

I love being able to see my veins standing up on my arms. Wow, that’s kinda gross, but what the hell. Gotta take the cheap thrills where I can.

What’s surprising is how much my legs hurt after carrying the plates home. Between the trek down Market Street and the distance from the J Church stop and home I carried … Read the rest
