For about the fourth time since 1994 I’m dipping my toes in the waters of learning Java. I have it in my head that I may be able to market myself more effectively with Java experience than with Perl. Yes, I believe everything I’ve heard about Python being The Best Language Ev4R, but I’m pretty much convinced that it being so good is its death knell. The endorsement of so many savvy people puts Python in a wonderful … Read the rest
Making some small progress in the War On Clutter. I have a big box of unsorted papers that is nearly fallen apart because its contents were too heavy for it in the move. Now I have a second box, which is the new home of the contents of the first box.
Eventually what I need is a system for filing the things that I intend to keep. But for right now I’m settling for just getting the stuff I think I … Read the rest
Last night talking with my housemate on the subject of Everyone Thinks I’m Gay, it was suggested to me that maybe I shouldn’t wear my earrings. I have two piercings in my left earlobe. For the last few years I’ve worn one small stud and a small ring.
So I took my earrings out, didn’t think much of it until this morning. I was getting ready to go out to the store, and I put my sunglasses on and checked myself … Read the rest
Doesn’t this look like fun?
OK, at my company we have five employees. That’s total, including the owner.
We have somewhere around a hundred Internet domains.
So why do we have to have different rules for EVERY DOMAIN????
My tourcorp.com address is “steve” and my mapwest.com address is “s” and my gotoalcatraz.com address is “splicer.”
I’m cool with that and cool with having multiple aliases for the same mailbox. What I don’t understand is having to maintain one hundred mailboxes or even one hundred separate aliases … Read the rest

The boxes are losing and the piles are winning.
I broke down a couple more boxes. Most of these are going right to recycling, as they’ve been in enough moves that I don’t think they’ll survive another. There’s also the issue of space and I don’t really have any place to store cardboard, even folded up. That’s kind of scary.
But with the help of The Container Store and Elfa stuff, I’ve now got most of my CDs stored under my … Read the rest
Today I went to my Triathlon Club running workout. Coach seems real good, and allayed my fears about my heartrate by referring me to an article on his website. But I have really jumped into the deep end here. I’m training with athletes who are way above my level, and that’s good. I have room to grow and these are all people that can help me along. Everyone’s a beginner at some point.
I kind of wish my high school … Read the rest
Dracunculus recently gave me the advice to find a social circle where I can climb to the top and attract the female of the species with my dominant social status and power.
Well, just to be ornery, I’m joining the Golden Gate Triathlon Club. I showed up for the meeting tonight and there were some truly gorgeous women there. I am WAY out of my class.
Of course, the purpose of being a member of this club is to get support … Read the rest
I’ve looked at nearly 6500 photos from Run Hit Wonder trying to find one where I can be seen. Apparently there aren’t any with my race number visible, as searching on my race number doesn’t help. But I’m still looking, hoping that I’ll show up in the background of someone else’s photo.
There’s only one picture I found so far. At the beginning of the race I set the timer on my phone so that I would have some idea … Read the rest
