Oh, yes, and…

Hot baths should be followed up with a large cup of ice water (crushed, not cubed) consumed on the front deck looking out over the lights of the city, seen barefoot and only in one’s bathrobe as the cloud cover zooms past quickly, so low that one would consider whether it were low clouds or high fog.

Then sleep, accompanied by a grey stripey friend, freshly brushed and purring softly.

That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

Does Spam Really Hurt Anyone?

I’m very very attached to my old RS/6000 Model 250. It’s the first ever production machine to run on a PowerPC chip, a 601 screaming at 66 megahertz. IBM beat Apple to market with these workstations by about four months. I have the original press release from when they announced the rollout, and at the time I wanted one very badly. At the time I was 23 years old, and a ten-to-twenty thousand dollar workstation was a bit … Read the rest

Auf der Maur at Slim’s, 02 July 2004

(apologies for taking so long to finish this and get it online)

First, I had a great time.

Second, to all of you who wrinkled your noses and declined my invitation, it’s just as well. You probably wouldn’t have been into the show. I hate to write that out, but AdM is probably coming back into town in September or October, according to MAdM. That’s likely to be a better show.

Before I get into the reasons why, let me tell you … Read the rest

On friendship and advice and children

A wonderful weekend in New York and Connecticut. There’s a lot about the East Coast that I miss, mostly people. I’m having to remind myself that there are people and places back in California that I would miss if I moved away, too.

One of the best parts of the trip was getting to talk with Xris about our careers. By that I mean both our jobs and our creative endeavors as well as the endeavors we haven’t gotten very far … Read the rest

DEVO at Summerstage 7/23/04

I went in to Summerstage feeling pretty bad. For whatever reason, my stomach has been upset since I landed on Thursday, and Friday night was about the worst of it. I felt like someone had kicked me in the gut. It was getting so bad that the thought had crossed my mind that I should seek medical attention.

After watching the first band, whose name I forget and whose best feature was the bass player’s rack, I sat down in … Read the rest

OK, gotta give it up

I know that wilhemina will rub my nose in this one, but I have to admit that NYC is one cool town.

Not quite willing to trade SF in, mind you, but I’ve had two really great days among you N’yawkahs. Even though it poured down rain on me, I dug hanging out in Chelsea and the Village, and Central Park was great for running.

So, yeah. NYC thumbs up.… Read the rest

  • mongoloid
  • blockhead
