Flying JetBlue to my RunHitWonder 10K I get to watch TV, and the flight just happened to coincide with the coverage of the Tour de France Stage 17. I won’t spoil the results or details for those of you who are waiting to see it on Tivo, but Lance kicked some serious ass, both with some of the moves he made and the moves he didn’t. It was a great stage.
Of course, this evening I’m not going to … Read the rest
I woke this morning at 4:30 with the feeling that I was already behind. I was right. With a 7:00am flight I should be at the airport by 5:00am in order to get through security. Of course at that point I hadn’t seen my itinerary in quite some time and I didn’t really know how late I was.
I packed my bags last night, so all I needed do was get dressed, feed … Read the rest
Today (oops, I mean last night) I moved the last truckload of belongings from my old apartment to my new one. I no longer need run across town dragging boxes and equipment and whatnot.
And not a moment too soon, since in about 30 hours I’ll be boarding a plane for NYC to see xris3 and vandanazoe and, I hope, meet jennybloog (psst! Are we still on for Run Hit Wonder?)
I’ve been waging a war here against my … Read the rest
So I have DSL, I have my block of static IP addresses, and I have the server set up. Now if I could just find the power supply for the network hub, I’d have email again.
I do have a serial connection to the server, so I’ve been able to read some of the emails folks sent to me before the whole damn thing collapsed. I will reply, really. Give me a little time to get all this set back up. … Read the rest
Stupid thing number one: my broadband provider couldn’t even put in an order without an installed phone line. I had my new number and the phone set up over a month in advance but until the line is actually active there’s nothing anyone can do, apparently.
Stupid thing number two: The line doesn’t need to just be in and working. SBC takes their own sweet time after the line is installed making the news of the existence of the line … Read the rest

So now that SBC admits that I have a phone line (a week after dial tone) they will graciously allow the DSL installation as early as the TWENTIETH.
I don’t remember broadband installation taking this long since the days of ISDN, and that required a team of specialists to show up onsite.
All my email is streaming into the void, all my mailing lists are dead and down, it’s all fuxx0red. Don’t bother emailing me unless you know … Read the rest
Best laid plans of mice and men, I guess.
I had it all worked out, or so I thought. The problem: I’m moving and I have a mailserver at home. How to move it with minimum downtime?
Well, The nice folks at SBC wouldn’t let me keep my old phone number anyway, but they were happy to provide me with overlap, meaning they would start service at the new location before stopping service at the old location. So this became a … Read the rest
