A litle more about Loofah

He was only eleven years old.

He had his own song. Whenever Queen’s “Mustapha” came on the stereo, I’d follow him around singing “Loofah-fa Loofah-fa Loofah-fa Ibrahim.”

When I got home yesterday evening he was lying in the sink. It was kind of sad but also cute. I took his picture there. It’s the last picture I have of Loofah alive:

I feel a little bit better today. I think that crying for hours nonstop last night helped.… Read the rest

Good bye

I’m afraid that Loofah was very very sick. When we got him to the vet his temperature was 97 degrees, which is four degrees low for a cat. He was badly dehydrated and had barely any electrolytes left.

It turns out that he had highly advanced diabetes and probably kidney failure. Either of those by itself would have meant a $3000 hospital stay plus a lot of maintenance for the rest of his life – twice-daily injections, pills, and … Read the rest

I’m worried about Loofah

Well, lately Loofah has been losing weight. And in the last couple days he’s plummeted. I got home today to find him barely moving, and it looks as though he’s thrown up on himself. I’ve cleaned him up and he’s very lethargic. He’s barely keeping his head up on his own and when I moved him from the vanity to the bed so that I could use the basin to shave, he didn’t take the weight himself and settle in … Read the rest

You Light Up My Life or Splicer: Outlaw Biker

Friday night I came “home” (to P a u l’s place) a bit later than I expected, and it was dark. I think it was about 10pm because I explored Orinda a little bit and the last showing of the movie I wanted to see was just about to start and the workers at the Starbuck’s were putting chairs up on the tables. After looking around a bit I headed on to El Sobrante. I was dreading it a … Read the rest

Reminiscing

Due to the music that just came through my MP3 rotation, I remembered a time about eight years ago. I don’t know if it’s the drunkest I ever got, but probably on my top five list: At a party DJed by DJ Picton I was so drunk that on the karaoke stage I forgot the words to “Why Don’t We Do It In The Road.”

Why don’t we do it in the road?
Why don’t we do it in the road?

Where am I when the movies are good?

Chatting with today I realized that I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to some of the best movies I’ve seen all year.

Owning Mahoney, Marooned in Iraq, The Dancer Upstairs–these are all movies I wouldn’t have seen if I didn’t have to for a work-related thing I don’t do anymore, and they’re probably the three most interesting movies I’ve seen this year. I probably would never have seen The Hours or Phone Booth either if I … Read the rest

That XP Worm is pretty nasty

It’s an amazing world we live in. Last night I helped a woman in Tehran rid her computer of the latest Internet worm/virus. It was a little bit of a pain because apparently Microsoft’s Windows Update software doesn’t work with pirate versions of XP, which thanks to the trade embargo is what most copies of it in Iran are. But I’m tenacious and clever and have a faster connection, so I was able to be helpful and walk her through … Read the rest
